The reality is that if you don't at least have them inspected periodically to detect problems, you could end up with significant damage to a number of areas to your home. Built up debris can cause drainage problems that effect your roof all they way down to the foundation. If you are not going to do it yourself, you should hire a professional and have your rain gutters inspected. There are a number of reasons you should have your gutters cleaned out.

    Damage to Your Roof

    One of the main reasons to keep your gutters clean is that gutters that are clogged with debris such as leaves and twigs will cause the water to overflow onto the roof, causing rot.

    Pests

    The moist debris in a rain gutter make attractive homes to a number of pests: rodents, insects, birds, bees and mosquitos.

    Fascia Damage

    You can have structural damage to the gutter itself. The fascia is the board that is located behind the gutter. If the gutter overflows, the fascia will begin to rot.

    Cracks in Foundation

    Not too many people associate foundation damage to a clogged rain gutter. But the reality is that if water overflows and pools on your foundation, in cold weather it may end up freezing. When the water freezes, it expands and can cause cracks in your foundation.

    Rain Gutter Bracket Damage

    When rain gutters get clogged and start accumulating water, the weight of the water can do damage to the brackets.
